Statement of MFA on the Central African Republic

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has welcomed the election of Ms. Catherine Samba-Panza as the new interim president of the Central African Republic.

Her election, as well as the resignation of Michel Djotodia, gives hopes for the ending of violence and the restoration of constitutional rule in the country.

On Monday, 20 January 2014, the EU Foreign Affairs Council  reached political agreement on a future CSDP military operation with the aim to restore security in the country and support the African Union’s  AFISM-CAR mission. The Czech Republic supports this operation, but does not plan to send its own troops.
