Wandering bus in Cameroon
10.01.2013 / 12:08
The Wandering Bus will take pupils from the forest villages of Cameroon to rescue centres in Limbe or Mefou to participate in educational programmes, above all to teach them to see gorillas not as a ‘meat on a plate‘, but as fascinating living beings.
Prague Zoo has been involved over a long period in nature protection in Cameroon, namely through many educational activities focused on children, and its support of the guards of the Dja Biosphere Reserve or Limbe Wildlife Centre. For 2013, the Zoo has prepared, together with its Cameroonian partners, a unique project called Wandering Bus.
“The Wandering Bus expands upon our activities in central Africa.” said Miroslav Bobek, the Director of Prague Zoo. “We not only support the guards of the Dja Reserve, but more importantly develop educational activities focused on children. For instance, we distributed very successful books with fairytales about gorillas to the children; in the evenings, the village teachers would read them to illiterate adults as well.”
The first tour will be made in January 2013, with the participation of the patrons of the project, Czech football player Karel Poborský.
