Karama Human Rights Film Festival seeks to create a cross-cultural platform for performance artists, film-makers and the wider general public to engage in issues relating to human rights, in particular to the dignity of human beings, their sense of worth, belonging and spirit of common welfare among their communities and the wider national spectrum.

Karama is committed to the generation and dissemination of substantial, creative and fresh perspectives in film-making focused on issues of human rights.

Karama Human Rights Film Festival started in 2010 as the first human rights film festival in Jordan. Although many regional and international human rights organizations are players in the discourse on human rights in the region, there is no significant platform for the discussion of human rights in Jordan or the neighboring Arab countries. Sensing the need for such a dynamic, a founding committee for the first Jordanian human rights film festival was established in July 2009. The committee comprised Sawsan Darwaza (festival director), Ehab El Khatib (artistic director) and Ayman Bardawil (media expert).

Karama Human Rights Film Festival has received support from The One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, organised by the Czech foundation People in Need.
