Visit to the Zaatari refugee camp and handover of Czech humanitarian supply

(This article expired 31.12.2018.)

On Sunday, 13.7.2014, the Director General of the Non-European Countries Section of the CZech MFA, Mr. Ivan Jančárek, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Jordan Petr Hladík, visited The Zaatari refugee camp . There they met representants of Lutheran World Federation, which is a local partner of the Czech NGO Diakonie, which has been realizing this humanitarian project supported by the government of the Czech Republic.

During his next visit  on Sunday 20.7. 2014, the Czech Ambassador attended  joint diner held for residents of the refugee camp, representatives of the aid providing organisations and the officials of the camp security . Shortly afterwards,  first  of  several thousands of sanitary packages  were handed over by the Ambassador himself.

Thanks to this generous financial support of the Czech Republic and member organisations of ACT Alliance, in the total amount of 3,8 million CZK, the hygienic packages have been purchased for more than 5000 famillies of Syrian refugees. One package of hygienic supplies should be sufficient for one family approximately  for two months. It includes items like soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins and other necessary supplies for daily life. As the hygienic conditions in the camp are still deemed to be critical, such aid is very appreciated.

Community Center Oasis

However,  this project is not the first step in helping to Syrian refugees  to improve their living conditions. It is a continuation of previous  succesful cooperation between the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NGO Diakonie and Lutheran World Federation  from the past two years, when  45 residential  containers  were bought in 2012  for those who could not live in the tents due to their poor health condition, and  about 25 000 pieces of clothes and pairs of kids shoes were purchased in 2013. Another outcome of  the aid provided by the Czech Republic is  a community center called Peace Oasis, that serves for  edication and self-realization  of the Syrian refugees.

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Amman is proud to be a partner in these humanitarian projects and is ready to continue in this beneficial cooperation.
