The unique exhibition introduces Czech garnet as a mineralogical symbol of the Czech Republic and as an important component of historical articles and artistic craft. The visitors of the exhibition get an opportunity to see jewellery, dishes, haberdashery and artistic, historical and ethnographic products. The exhibition consists of approximately 160 exhibits - outstanding works of Czech goldsmiths and jewellers from the Gothic period until now. The oldest exhibit is a mid-14th century jasper slab from a Prague cathedral. The youngest item is a necklace with a pomegranate motif by a contemporary Czech jeweller. Some of the most significant exhibits are precious church articles, such as baroque monstrance or chalices, a statue and a painting of Madonna decorated with Czech garnets and crosses and prayer beads. There is a numerous collection of jewels for women including combs and tiaras and also sports awards, accolades, writing sets and smoking requisites. The biggest collection of jewels displayed in the exhibition comes from 19th century. Rich image materials depict some outstanding personalities of the Czech history, towns and places connected with Bohemian garnet, period portraits and clothing. The exhibition also presents samples of rocks with crude Czech garnet, amethyst, jasper and silver ore from mineralogical collection of the Czech National Museum, as well as historical manuals and tools for their processing.
