Ambassadors and Representatives of EU Embassies Visited Shandong Province

November 6th to 8th 2013 Ambassadors and representatives of EU Embassies to the People´s Republic of China paid a working visit to Qufu, Tai´an and Jinan in Shandong Province and had a meeting and discussion with local government representatives including the Governor and Vice-governor of Shandong, Mayor of Jinan City and many other distinguished officials.
The visit was organized by the Lithuanian Presidency of EU in order to establish or deepen contacts between the EU countries and Shandong, which is one of the most important and prosperous provinces in China. The Czech Republic participated in this event and was represented by the Deputy Ambassador Mr. Zbynek Noha. The whole visit was co-organised by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province under the motto “EU Diplomats Embracing Shandong – Hand in Hand for Common Development”.
The Ambassadors and other EU diplomats attended a round table with officials of Shandong Province chaired by Vice-governor Xia Geng and co-chaired by the Ambassador of Lithuania Mrs. Lina Antanaviciene. The discussion focused on possible deepening of cooperation between EU and Shandong Province, inter alia in the field of environmental protection, transportation and drug and food safety. They also met a number of Shandong entrepreneurs and held a workshop about future cooperation. Later the representatives were received by the Governor Guo Shuqing who expressed his will to enhance the relations between Shandong Province and respective EU countries.
During a visit to Jinan University the diplomats had a chance to speak to Chinese as well as foreign students and meet the professors and management of the University. The group also visited Qilu Software Park and Sun Paper Industry factory. The EU Embassies representatives also enjoyed the opportunity to see the birth place and the tomb of Confucius in Qufu and the view from the peak of Mount Taishan.
One of the regions in the Czech Republic – Zlín Region – has a partnership with Shandong Province.
