Mňága a Žďorp at the Embassy in Beijing

On Saturday, May 10th, 2014 a special feast was held at the Czech Embassy in Beijing. This was not a formal feast, prescribed in the calendar, but the real one and long-awaited, as everyone shared this feeling. This was indeed the day when the legendary Czech (or rather Moravian) rock band Mňága a Žďorp was supposed to perform. The band traveled to China (“country in the centre”) in order to perform three concerts - in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, as well as to record a new album which will be available on the Czech market this autumn.

The flashpoint of the band’s activities in Beijing was their concert in the garden of the Embassy. More than 350 spectators attended this event- audience from the Czech community living in Beijing, Chinese and foreign students, artists and friends of the Embassy. The concert was adopted also under the auspices of Chaoyang district, so that together with the Embassy another significant achievement in terms of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and China was organized. Exactly at eight o'clock in the evening short speeches by the Czech Ambassador, L. Sečka, and by the Deputy Mayor of Chaoyang, Ms. Zhang, were heard and then it started. The whole space was filled by rhythmic tones of rock music and the crowd ruffled. Enthusiasm and emotions escalated in accordance with the pace of the tracks. If it had not started to rain after two hours, the concert might not been finished... The band Mňága a Žďorp brought a welcoming rejuvenation, return to the sources, new energy. We believe that they will take the same spirit on their way back. It should be noted that behind the band’s success in China a lot of effort, work as well as help from the Embassy is hidden. A special thanks belongs to Mr. M. Hošek, who is responsible for culture. The success of the concert was also supported by sponsors - Škoda, Xinyuan, Sotio, Home Credit, ...
