With Saudek came the sexual revolution

From 22nd to 26th May 2013 the Czech photographer Jan Saudek - the legend of current Czech and world photography visited Beijing.

Although the name of Jan Saudek is known in China, his photographs were exhibited here for the first time.  The author rarely travels abroad and does not leave the dark space of his photo lab. Therefore not only artistic community was extraordinary interested in Saudek, but also the leading Chinese media, to whom he willingly gave interviews.

The purpose of the exhibition in Beijing was to present the work of Jan Saudek in a larger format. And, therefore, was divided into two parts. The first opening under the name “Dew in morning coffee“ was held at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on 23rd May.

Famous Chinese photographer Liu Zheng, who considers himself as Saudek's student, exhibited his photographs here together with Saudek. At the beginning of the exhibition both photographers were awarded the golden lions from the hands of Ambassador Libor Sečka, then Miss Lu Jing from Archa Theatre sang. The second solo exhibition entitled “Letter“ was officially opened on 25th May in the See+ gallery in the Art Zone 798. Jan Saudek's stay was short but very intense and has left lasting impression not only in Beijing.
