Celebrations of the National Day and of the anniversary of 1989 Velvet Revolution

In commemoration of the National Day and the anniversary of the democratic changes in former Czechoslovakia (1989 Velvet Revolution), the Embassies of the Czech Republic and of the Slovak Republic in Beirut presented at the American University of Beirut on November 20, 2012 a performance of the Czech and Slovak traditional music and dances, presented by DANAJ Cimbal Group and CAROVNE OSTROHY Dancing Troup.
„DANAJ Cimbal Group“ is one of the leading folk ensembles from Southern Moravia, a charming region close to the Czech borders with Slovakia and Austria, known for its wines and traditional music.
The group was founded in 1988 and since it performed in most of the European countries, in China, USA and Nigeria. Several times DANAJ accompanied the Czech President and Prime Ministers on their visits abroad and in 2004 the group participated in the official cultural program during the Summer Olympic Games in Athens.
In 2000 DANAJ became the laureate of the most prestigious International Folklore Festival STRAZNICE. Both the music group and its two singing solists (artistic leader and cimbal virtuose Magdalena Muckova and the violine primas Jan Gajda) have earned FOSKAR titles, appraised annual folk-music awards.
"Čarovné ostrohy" (Magic Spurs) is a leading dancing troupe in Slovakia representing an excellent combination of style, dynamism, tradition and modern dances.
The company released several projects and shows at home and abroad including in collaboration with world famous personalities such as the opera singer Jose Cura, the flamenco dancer Bettina Castaño, famous Slovak singers and dancers. „Čarovné ostrohy“ is the only Slovak dance group performing every year in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. In summer of 2012 they performed in London during the Olympic Games at the opening ceremony of the Slovak national house.
