(This article expired 17.05.2017.)

On the occasion of the Easter holidays the Ambassador Jiří Šitler visited the villages in Banat (Caras-Severin County) inhabited by the Czech minority.

He met with the representatives of the Czech community – teachers, members of municipal councils and representatives of all Czech local organizations of the Democratic Union of Slovaks and Czechs headed by the Chairman of the Union’s South Banat branch František Draxel. They thanked for the financial donations assigned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic to the activities of associations of compatriots. They also informed the Ambassador of the problems they encounter (bad access roads, ageing of the population, lack of job opportunities etc.). In the villages of Svatá Helena, Gerník and Rovensko the Ambassador attended traditional Roman Catholic as well as Baptist Easter celebrations. He also met with the representative of the Czech NGO People in Need that carries out a project co-financed by the Czech MFA on promoting tourism in Banat, and visited local firms.
