Comics book series on Czech-Romanian relations launched

On 16 April 20014, a comics book Mickey pe Dunăre (Mickey on the Danube) was launched at the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest, by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest in cooperation with the Czech Centre and Jumătatea plină Publishing. The book on a Czech family on holiday in Romania during the August 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia is the first of a series “Czech-Romanian Relations in Comics”.

Czech Ambassador Jiří Šitler and Romania´s former Foreign Minister, Dean of the Faculty of History, professor Adrian Cioroianu participated in the book launch. The opening was accompanied by a live performance of the book´s illustrator Cristian Dârstar as part of the project “Spraying History” initiated by Romanian non-profit organization Militia Spirituala.

The book Mickey on the Danube tells a story of Czech tourists in the Black Sea Mamaia resort in August 1968 during the invasion of Czechoslovakia by troops of the Warsaw Pact member states with the exception of Romania. It is the first of eight books of the series “Czech-Romania Relations in Comics” initiated by the Embassy of the Czech Republic and supported by CEZ Romania group.
