Czech Ambassador Šitler and Pilsner Bishop on Visit at Czechs in Banat

His Excellency Jiří Šitler and Pilsner bishop František Radkovský visited Czech villages in Banat region on 14th – 18th August in order to participate in the traditional pilgrimage of Banatian Czechs to Virgin Mary of Ciclova.

On 14th August bishop Radkovský served a feast  in front of almost 1000 pilgrims from Banatian villages as well Banat-born Czechs from the Czech Republic. Then, a Czech Hall was opened in cooperation with representatives of the Democratic Union of Slovaks and Czechs in Romania, the Ambassador and the mayor. The Hall is also going to serve as a museum of Czech culture. In addition, several hundred Garnic-born Czechs met in Garnic on 15th and 16th August. On Sunday 17th August, the Ambassador participated in a mass served by bishop Radkovský as well as joined a traditional feast on St. Helene together with Banat-born Czechs living now in the Czech Republic. The bishop visited Eibenthal on Sunday and Monday of 17th and 18th August and on the way visited several Czech community’s churches in Berzasca and Liubcova.
