Czech film director Jiří Menzel receives Romania´s high decoration

Czech Oscar-winning film director Jiří Menzel received the Order of Cultural Merit from the hands of Romania´s Minister of Culture and National Heritage Kelemen Hunor on May 18, 2011. Romanian President Traian Basescu appointed Mr. Menzel a Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit to acknowledge his achievements in film and stage directing as well as his considerable contribution to the development of world cinematography.
Jiří Menzel is on his already fourth visit to Bucharest. He takes part in a retrospective of his films organized by the Czech Centre and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest on May 16 – 19. The opening ceremony in the Cinema Studio was attended by over 500 guests who watched the film Cutting it Short and participated in the discussion with the film director afterwards.
