Czechs and Slovaks joined battle…playing cimbalom
On 14 May, the Embassies of the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic together with the Czech Centre organized a cultural event in the Romanian Peasant Museum to mark the 20th anniversary of the “velvet” split of Czechoslovakia and the birth of two independent states.
The battle between one Czech and one Slovak cimbalom players, accompanied by a joint Czech-Slovak band, was completed by a variety of food and drinks typical of the two countries. The event was very well attended. Among the guests were representatives of Romania´s Parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture, mass media, cultural circles and other friends of the two countries. Ambassadors Jiří Šitler and Ján Gábor opened the event which successfully demonstrated excellent relations between the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
