Jiří Dienstbier, Czechoslovakia´s first Minister of Foreign Affairs after 1989, died

With great sadness, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest wishes to inform that Jiří Dienstbier, the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechoslovakia after the Velvet Revolution, died on 8 January in Prague.

Czech Senator Jiří Dienstbier, Czechoslovakia´s first Minister of Foreign Affairs after the Velvet Revolution, former dissident and journalist, courageous fighter for democracy and human rights, has died after suffering from a long illness, aged 73. He headed the Senate´s Committee for foreign affairs, defence and security, and was a member of the Senate commission for the constitution.

The memorial act was held in Valdstejn Palace, seat of the Senate, in Prague on 14 January.
