National Days of the Czech Republic and Austria celebrated together in Timisoara

On 31 October 2014, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, in partnership with the Embassy of Austria and Honorary Consulates of the Czech Republic and Austria celebrated together the National Days of the two countries in Timisoara.

The celebration took place at the Timisoara Bastion from the 18th century and featured performances by folklore ensembles of the Czech and German minorities, who moved to the Romanian Banat during the time of the Habsburg Monarchy. Moreover, two exhibitions were organized to commemorate 100 years since the start of World War I - “Art in trenches of the First World War” and “Year 1914 – (un)rest before storm”.

The event was attended – among others - by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Jiří Šitler, by the Ambassador of Austria Gerhard Reiweger, the Honorary Consuls of both countries Ştefan Moţec and Vasile Onofrei, the Chairman of the Timis County Council Titu Bojin and the Mayor of Timisoara Nicolae Robu.

All parties expressed their gratitude to the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), which provided support for the event.
