(This article expired 13.10.2017.)

On 6 October, the results of the contest for The Most Beautiful Book were announced, in the UNA Gallery. The book Mickey on the Danube was the first comic book to win this prize ever, and was granted the second place. At the awards ceremony, the prize was received by Petra Dobruská, project coordinator, from the Embassy of the Czech Republic, and René Kubášek, director of the Czech Center.

The book  Mickey on the Danube was published as part of the project Czech – Romanian Relations in Comic Books, an initiative of the Czech Embassy in Bucharest who’s purpose is to present, in a non-traditional way, the traditionally good relations between the Czech Republic and Romania. The series Czech – Romanian Relations in Comic Books brings back some of the common moments in the history of the two countries. The project includes the publishing of seven books, of which two in two versions of language.

The book Mickey on the Danube presents the story of someCzech tourists who find themselves at the seaside resort in Mamaia, in August 1968, when Czechoslovakia was invaded by the all states of the Warsaw Pact, except Romania. Director and universal artist Alexandru Berceanu wrote the script, inspired by the true history of a Czech family. The author of the illustrations is the young artist Cristian Dârstar, who has been working in the field of graphics and comic since 2004.
