Ambassadors of the Czech Republic and the Federative Republic of Germany opened Literary and Artistic Competition at the German Protestant School in Cairo

Ambassadors of the Czech Republic and the Federative Republic of Germany opened the literary and artistic competition at the DEO, November 18th, 2013.The competition was initiated by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Cairo as part of the Embassy’s cultural program for the season 2013-2014 called “Kafka in Cairo”. In 2013, we commemorate Kafka’s 130th birth anniversary and, in 2014, we will commemorate the 90th anniversary of his decease. On the very same occassion the Embassy of the Czech Republic opened the Franz Kafka Exhibition at the DEO. The exhibition will stay open till the end of the week.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic had already opened the Czech Painter Jiri Sliva's Litography Exhibiton in the framework of Kafka in Cairo in May 2013. The literary and artistic competition at the DEO represents constinuation of our cultural and educational activities in this field. The competition is held under the auspices of both the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Germany. The competition is divided into three categories: the best illustrations or drawings on Kafka's biography and work (for pupils), the best essays on Kafka's biography (for students) and the best essays on Kafka's literature (for students). The best works will gain awards. All contestants will be invited to a cocktail prepared in co-operation between the two Embassies that will take place in March 2014 at the Czech Embassy.
