Opportunities of Foreigners to Study at Primary, Secondary and Higher Vocational Schools

Under a Law No. 561/2004 Coll., foreigners may, as well as Czech citizens, study at primary, secondary and higher vocational schools under the following conditions:

Citizens of the European Union may study at primary, secondary and higher schools under the same conditions as Czech citizens.

Citizens of other countries may study under the same conditions as citizens of the European Union, provided their residence in the Czech Republic is legitimate.

Compulsory schooling is provided at primary schools, at special schools and in schools of constitutional and protective education; all the above-mentioned forms of education are provided free-of-charge. In order to pursue the above-mentioned forms of education, the pupils have to present any documents proving that the pupil's residence in the Czech Republic is legitimate.

Foreign students may further gain education at secondary schools for free if these students prove their ability to study in the Czech language. Education at higher vocational schools is not provided free of charge; foreigners must pay the same tuition fees as Czech citizens. In order to study at a secondary school, higher vocational school or a tertiary school, the foreign student must present a certificate justifying his/her residence in the Czech Republic.¨
