The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library is launching a major new project to record the stories of émigrés from communist-era Czechoslovakia who settled in Chicago, Washington D.C. and Cleveland.
These stories are personal, but help explain monumental political and cultural shifts that occurred during the 20th Century. In what we believe is the first project of its kind, we aim to gather the personal accounts, family sagas and community histories of Czech and Slovak Americans in order to preserve them for future generations. The success of this project depends on strong participation from people like you!
If you yourself are a Czech or Slovak emigrant, or have information which could help us with this project, then let us know. Contact Rosie Johnston at rjohnston@ncsml.org or on 319-447-5537.
This project has been made possible thanks to a prestigious grant awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
