Celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Czech Republic´s accession to the EU

Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic Tomáš Boček participated at the official celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Eastern enlargement of the EU and spoke about success, progress and challenges, which will the Czech Republic and the EU face in the future.

Czech Republic, along with other states of Eastern enlargement, had recalled on the May 1 the 10th anniversary of EU accession, which was one of the turning points for the future of european integration. On this occasion Oriano Otočan, the President of ALDA (The Association of Local Democracy Agencies dedicated to the promotion of democratic practices of good governance, decentralisation, european integration and citizen participation at the local level), prepared in cooperation with the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities on the 6th June official celebration, which was a part of international conference „Bridging the European Year 2013 and the European Year 2015: from participation to development“. The opportunity to participate in this celebration had several Council of Europe´s representatives, European civil society representatives and representatives of European networks. Besides other speakers ambassador Tomáš Boček gave a speech emphasizing sense of belonging to the European Union, extended possibilities that EU membership brought to the Czech Republic, especially to its citizens, and the possibility to fully integrate into the group of developped countries. The need to promote universal values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law both within the Community and beyond, was also promoted.

At the end of the event, a special session dedicated to the situation in Ukraine and the role of local authorities and civil society in the conflict was held.
