The group "Elysium - between two continents" organized last Thursday, March 20, at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic an evening in remembrance of Alice Herz-Sommer - a pianist and a survivor of the Theresienstadt concentration camp, the world's oldest known Holocaust survivor, who passed away few days ago in age of 110 years.
The Consul General Martin Dvorak welcomed all the officials, the Consul General of Slovakia, Jana Trnovcova, the Deputy Consul General of Aust...ria, Dr. Waltraud Dennhardt-Herzog, the Counsellor of Political Affairs at the German Mission to the UN, Christiane Hullmann, and Liz McAleer from the New York State Council on the Arts, who came as a representative of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and brought the Governor's greetings. After the screening of the impressive documentary by Michael Teutsch "From Hell to Paradise - or Chopin saved me" chronicling the life of Alice Herz-Sommer from her time in Prague, to the camp of Terezin, her years in Israel and finally her last 25 years in London, we invited the guests to a reception in the gallery of the Czech Center, which was generously underwritten by Jolana Blau.
