100th birthday of the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal

An evening dedicated to the 100th birthday of the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal was held in the Bohemian National Hall in New York by the Society for Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York.
Consul General Martin Dvořák opened the meeting with his personal experience with Hrabal's novel. Bilingual reading of excerpts from Hrabal´s books followed together with the samples of films made by Bohumil Hrabal's prose. Well-attended event offered to its satisfied visitors not only a cultural experience, but also a genuine Czech beer and Czech sandwiches (chlebíčky) when not only the Hrabal's work and life were debated after the official end of the event.
