You can apply for this visa if you would like to study at non-accredited school/programme by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic. All documents must be translated into the Czech language. Only exemption is for students applying to study at a Czech University.
Long-stay visa for other purposes
For students applying for a school/programme that is not accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
The long-stay visa application shall be processed within 90 days from the date the Consulate receives the complete application. In exceptional complicated cases, the procedure can take up to 120 days.
Incomplete applications are inadmissible and will be returned to the applicant!
All documents must be presented in their original form or as a notarized copy and may not be older than 180 days, except travel document. Additional copies of all submited documents are required (one set of the originals or notarized copies and one setof copies including the application and data page of the passport).
The decision about visa application is made by the regional office of the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
All documents (except the travel document) must be in the Czech language. Translations into the Czech language must be officially verified. There are exceptions for students applying for a school/programme that is not accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sportsof the Czech Republic (read below).
While lodging the application, an interview with the applicant can be conducted. A written record of the interview can be a part of the application. A record will be written down in Czech languge and will be signed by the applicant and the officer of the Consulate who will conduct the interview. In case you don´t understand Czech you can bring an interpreter with you to translate the written record.
If you need your passport during the visa process, you can withdraw it personally or send us a request and pre-paid self-addressed USPS Express Mail envelope. Only upon the receiving the written request your passport can be returned to you. The passport must be re-submitted again at the end of the process for the issuance of the visa.
The visa for a stay over 90 days is granted for maximum lenght of 6 months.
In case the visa has been refused, you have the right of appeal. The appeal should be addressed to the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic that made the decision about the application within 15 days after receiving the information about the refusal of the application.
All documents must be submitted in original or notarized copies altogether with copies of all submitted documents.
We accept only cash or money order payable to the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York. Personal checks are not accepted!
3. Two photographs
Two passport photos have to resemble to the actual appearance.
4. Original passport
You must submit your original passport. Its validity must exceed the expected length of stay by at least 90 days (after the visa expires). Passport can not be older then 10 years.
Check if your passport is signed!!
5. Document confirming your sufficient financial resources
You have to present an original or notarized copy of the internationally recognized debit/credit card on your name with a validity during your stay in the Czech Republic
an original or notarized copy of a corresponding bank account statement held on your name (the credit card must be issued by the same institution as your bank statement).
All documents must be translated into the Czech language, except the bank statements. Generally, for a long-term visa,
the proof of sufficient finances is the amount of cca USD 3000.
Applicants younger than 18 years can submit a proof of financial means equaling to a half of the required amount.
6. Document confirming the purpose of stay
o STUDY - the original or a notarized copy of a document certifying acceptance into a study program issued by a Czech university or school (this document must be in the Czech language)
o SPORT- a certificate of an individual or a legal entity carrying on sports activities in the territory of the Czech Republic
o MEDICAL- a certificate of acceptance for treatment issued by a medical establishment
7. Document confirming accommodation
STUDY - document confirming the accommodation can not be a part of the acceptance letter. It has to be submitted separately.
o an original statement from the owner of an apartment/house stating his/her ability and willingness to provide applicant’s accommodation for the time of stay (signature must be notarized by a Czech notary)
o in the case of a lease for an apartment/house - the original or a notarized copy of the lease contract
o in the case of a sublet - the original or a notarized copy of the lease contract and an affidavit signed by the owner confirming the sublet (signature must be notarized by a Czech notary)
o if you are an owner of the real property the original record or the notarized copy from the Real Estate Register is requested
8. Criminal History Background
o For US nationals: an affidavit letter confirming that you have never been indicted and sentenced for a felony of any kind. Your signature must be notarized by a Notary Public or you have to sign it in front of the Consular Officer
o children under 15 years are not required to submit the affidavit letter or Criminal History Record
o For non US nationals: submit the Criminal History Record from the country of your nationality. It must be appropriatelly certified (Apostille or super-legalization) and it must be accompanied with the translation into the Czech language
In addition, if you have lived in any country for 6 months or more in the previous three years, please contact the Consulate for details.
10. The Consulate is not accepting any responsibility for lost or damaged documentation!

self-addressed US Postal Service Express Mail Envelope (NO FEDEX, NO UPS are accepted). For the future tracking we suggest to make a written record of the registration number for your record.
