The Danish-Czech Society – 15th Anniversary

On March 8th 2008 the Danish-Czech Society celebrated its 15th anniversary in Herlev near Copenhagen.
On March 8 th 2008 the Danish-Czech Society celebrated its 15 th anniversary in Herlev near Copenhagen. The time of the anniversary coincided luckily with the Fokus Tjekkiet project, as it became a part of the many cultural, social and economical events within the framework of Fokus Tjekkiet.
About 100 members of the society took part in the anniversary celebrations, which were opened with a speech by the chairwoman of the society Mrs. Jana Vlková. The chairwoman spoke about the history of the Danish-Czech Society and explained that the society of today is preceded by the Danish-Czechoslovak Society founded as a reaction to circumstances of the Charta 77 movement. Even the Dialog periodical of the society was founded at this time. After the partition of Czechoslovakia the Danish-Czechoslovak Society dissolved and the Danish-Czech Society was founded and in its 15 years of existence it has proved itself as capable of surviving, Mrs. Jana Vlková stated.
After the opening speech the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Ivan Jančárek held a short presentation of Czech history, congratulated the members of the Danish-Czech Society on the occasion of the anniversary and thanked them for their support and interest in the different projects of the Embassy of the Czech Republic.
The presentation was followed by a performance of traditional Danish folk dances, another presentation by Mr. Holger Andersen, who spoke about his bicycle trip from Denmark to Vysoké Mýto in the Czech Republic. Mrs. Jana Nováková exhibited her lace work and Mrs. Julie Brabcová her paintings. A little flea market with Czech books was also highly appreciated by the society members.
The Danish-Czech Society is growing and the number of Danish members with great interest in the Czech Republic is also increasing.
