Celebration of St. Wenceslas Day and screening of the film “Valley of the Bees”

On 25 September 2009 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen arranged a social gathering at the ambassador´s residence on the occasion of St. Wenceslas Day – the Day of Czech Statehood.

Czech expatriots, members of the Czech-Danish Society and the association vKodani.cz, representatives of the Czech Airlines and Czech students attended the event. After a short welcome the ambassador Zdeněk Lyčka reminded the significance of Saint Wenceslas, the patron of the Czech Republic and an important personality in Czech history. The participants of the celebration sang together the historical St. Wenceslas choral, which they received in a written form.

The ambassador presented the upcoming cultural events arranged by the Embassy in the near future. The members of the Czech associations expressed great appreciation of the organization of the cultural events as well as the Film Club screening Czech movies.

After refreshments a screening of the film Valley of the Bees from 1967 by the director as well as the author of the script František Vláčil followed. The film is based on the novel by Vladimír Körner and the leading roles are performed by at that time beginning actors Petr Čepek, Jan Kačer and Věra Galatíková.
