Commemoration of Czechoslovak war pilots in Bergen op Zoom

On 22 May 2013 the Czech Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Jaroslav Horák and the Slovak Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Jaroslav Chlebo, visited jointly a military cemetery in Bergen op Zoom to honor the memory of six members of the bomber Vickers-Wellington 311 crew of the Czechoslovak squadron of the RAF.

The bomber was shut down on 11 April 1942 near the village of Middenmeer.
During the ceremony both ambassadors laid flowers at the tombstones of the fallen soldiers and wreaths at the central war memorial. The ceremony was also attended by the representatives of local government including the mayor of Bergen op Zoom Mr. Dirk de Cloe.
At the British military cemetery the following Czech and Slovak soldiers are buried: Hrdina Josef, Kalenský Josef, Kodeš Karel, Peprníček Jan, Politzer Jozef and Rychnovský Karel.
