Exhibition of drawings by Mrs. Helga Hošková-Weiss

An extraordinary exhibition of drawings by Mrs. Helga Hošková-Weiss will be held from 27 April to 5 June 2013 in Etty Hillesum Centrum in the town of Deventer.

The opening of the exhibition will take place in the presence of Mrs. Helga Hošková-Weiss. The drawings capture her painful childhood experience from the ghetto of Terezin.

Helga Hošková-Weiss was born into a Jewish family. At the age of 9 she started writing her diary of everyday life. In 1941 she was deported with her parents at the ghetto of Terezin. They stayed almost three years there before they were sent to three other Nazi concentration camps: Auschwitz, Freiberg and Mauthausen. She survived the horrors of the war and returned to Prague where she was born and lives so far. The exhibition features the sketches in which she recorded life in the camp of Terezin. The drawings are on view thanks to a loan from a German foundation.
