In December 2011, the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention elected the Czech Republic, as well as other 19 States Parties, as a member of the OPCW Executive Council for a two year term starting on 12 May 2012.
The Czech Republic already served as a member of the Executive Council, consisting of 41 States Parties to the Convention, in the years 1998-2000, 2003-2005 and 2007-2009, and in addition to that chaired the Council from May 2003 until May 2004. One of the priorities of the Czech Republic during her current membership in the Executive Council will be to support the implementation of Article X of the Convention which regulates the provision of assistance and protection against chemical weapons and toxic chemicals.
