Tourists entering the CR who wish to import dogs, cats and small beasts of prey are required to produce an international vaccination certificate confirming vaccination for rabies (certificate can be used from one month to one year after vaccination).

Since July 3, 2004 it is necessary to have a special passport for your pet (cats, dogs and small beasts of prey) issued by a veterinary doctor. The passport is based on an international vaccination certificate mentioning its medical history. The most important is the vaccination for rabies. The last shot must not be younger than 1 month and older than 1 year.
