International conference about the EU enlargement
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Hanoi participated on 20 October 2003 in the conference about the EU enlargement in order to discuss the dimensions of this impact on relations between Vietnam and European countries.

The conference was organised by The European Studies Programme Hanoi in co-operation with Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

The conference featured general presentations by experts from Europe and Vietnam and case presentation by representatives of the four new EU member states (that have a permanent representation in Vietnam - the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) as well as an in-depth roundtable discussion. Alongside the conference, participants had the chance to inform themselves on those four new EU member states as well as on the enlarged European Union.




Handover Ceremony for the prices won by Vietnamese children in the international painting contest "Lidice 2002"
The Handover Ceremony took place in the Hanoian Children´s Palace on the 9th of April 2003. The act was witnessed by the winning children, the director of the International Department on the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam, the Director of the Hanoian Children´s Palace, two of the Art Directors of the Hanoi Children´s Palace, journalists from nine newspapers/ weekly magazines, the Hanoi Radio and the Hanoi Television film crew (Center of International Media Cooperation).

After the handing over of the prices and the speech of the DCM, Mr. Martin Čurda and the Director of the International Department of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam Mr. Pham Xuan Sinh the prominent guests participated in a reception. A cake in the shape of the "Rose of Lidice" - the logo of the event was served.


New Year´s concert
A Concert by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra took place on the 22/1/2003 featuring the works of B. Smetana (Vltava from Má vlast) and A. Dvořák (Symphony 9 from The New World and Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B min Op. 104). The Concert came to life under the baton of the British conductor Graham Sutcliffe, recently lauded by Queen Elizabeth as an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his dedicated work in Vietnam.

The Concert was prepared by the Czech Embassy in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Czech Republic as well as to welcome the Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet).

The Concert was dedicated especially to the Vietnamese citizens who have personal ties with our country.

In co-operation with the conductor Mr. Sutcliffe compositions were chosen which traditionally remind the citizens of our country of the most important moments of Czech statehood and thus are of utmost importance to a wider spectrum of lovers of classical music.

After the two hour long concert the Vietnamese orchestra played the Slavonic Dances as an encore. A cocktail was the offered to the guests. On this memorable occasion the Czech sparkling wine Bohemia Sekt Brut was presented on Vietnamese soil for the first time.
