Opening Ceremony of New Pre-school in Nkayi

Yet another school building constructed with support of the Czech Republic was opened in Matabeleland North Province of Zimbabwe on the eve of Africa Day.

Following February's opening of a new classroom block in Somgolo a pre-school compound was inaugurated on 24 May 2012 in the remote district of Nkayi. The new fully furnished building will allow dozens of local children to leave the premises of an old, deteriorated construction, which the pre-school has been using so far. An adjacent 30m-deep borehole, whose construction was also made possible thanks to Czech development aid funding, will serve not only the children, but the wider community as well.

"Building a new school is only the first, but not the most important step towards education; as from now, the role of teachers and parents will be crucial," stated the Head of the Czech Embassy in Harare Dr. Luděk Zahradníček during the opening ceremony. He added he believed in further peaceful development of Zimbabwe, for which today's youngest generation is the country's greatest promise. The children's vivid joy and enthusiasm was according to Dr. Zahradníček the best form of appraisal for the project that the Czech Republic could have hoped for.

The Czech Republic has been supporting healthcare and education projects in remote areas of Zimbabwe for a number of years. In 2011, four of such development projects were completed.
