ZIMBABWE - CZECH DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATION
(1993 - TODAY)

Even before the split of Czechoslovakia became reality, its shortly-to-be defunct Embassies around the world informed their partners about the planned split. Relevant diplomatic note also requested for smooth and swift recognition of the both successor states - the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic respectively. For some reasons of a probably bureaucratic nature, the formal recognition of these newly-born countries by Zimbabwe took a few months, which caused a lot of problems for the functioning of the two Embassies which remained in Harare as their status was understood as unclear. This was even more painstaking because the old-new Embassy of the Czech Republic should cover not only Zimbabwe, but also Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Malawi respectively; the process of recognition of the Czech and Slovak republics took shorter time there.

In December 1994, the jurisdiction of the Embassy in Harare was altered and a new chargé d´affaires (later on, he was appointed Ambassador) was accredited not only to Zimbabwe but also to Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. Shortly after the temporary closure of the Czech Embassy in Luanda, it was added accreditation to Angola and Sao Tomé and Príncipe .
