Culture is both an important tool of the foreign policy and a significant part the presentation of the Czech Republic abroad. It impacts on creating and strenthening posivitive image of the country. Promotion of culture aims at spreading cultural heritage worldwide and adding new values into it.
In 2006, the Programme of cultural, educational and scientific cooperation was signed between the Czech Republic and Finland. The programme facilitates mutual cultural contacts and students´exchange. In research and development area, the Czech – Finnish Technology Days have been organized. Increasing interest in works of Czech composers (Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček) has been noticeable in the last years. On the other hand, the Czech Republic has welcomed many Finnish groups and choirs and presented films by Aki Kaurismäki. The Mole (Krtek) has gained highest popularity in Finland thanks to frequent editions and re-editions. Overleaf, Arto Paasilinna´s novels are in demand in the Czech republic.
Partnership cities Tampere and Olomouc have kept friendly ties for two decades .
