Czech presence on the golf fair in Helsinki

CzechTourism was for the third time present on the Go Expo 2013 golf fair which took place from 8th to 10th March in Helsinki. The fair was visited by more than 42.000 people. The fair is presented as the biggest golf event in the whole Scandinavia.

Seminar on the Eurozone crisis

Seminar „Still an option? The view on the euro crisis in and outside the Eurozone“ was held on 23 January 2013 in the Finnish Parliament Annex Auditorium. The event organized in cooperation with the Finnish Institute of International Affairs belongs among the Visegrad (V4) countries´ activities in Helsinki. Speeches were presented by delegates from the Visegrad countries, the Czech Republic was represented by Prof Petr Drulák, Ph.D. - Director of the Institute of International Relations.

Building of the underground line with participation of Metrostav goes on successfully

The building of the West Metro underground has reached the halfway mark. Länsimetro - the West Metro project is a new traffic connection between Helsinki and Espoo with the planned transport capacity of 100 000 passengers a day. On 22 November 2012 a breakthrough was celebrated in the underground space as the tunnels between Espoo and Helsinki were joined. Czech company Metrostav is also participating in the building of the West Metro and the company has now its third work contract.

Travel Fair Matka 2013

The largest travel industry event in Finland – Travel Fair MATKA – took place at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre from 17 to 20 January 2013. The Czech Republic was represented by company Teris, Czech Tourism agency, Hotel Clarion Prague and Hotel Aquapalace Prague. Magazine COT was presented by catalogues. The participation in the Travel Fair was supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki. Also Finnish-Czech Society had its own stand at the Fair.

Thanks and greetings of a small patient from the Children’s Hospital in Helsinki

The Czech Embassy in Helsinki received a drawing from a patient in the Helsinki Children’s Hospital thanking for the donation of 50 soft Mole toys given to small patients in Finnish hospitals. The drawing was also a wish for Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

St. Nicholas visited children of Czech compatriots

Also this year St. Nicholas (“Pikkuláš”) arrived with angels and a devil to see Czech children at the Embassy in Helsinki. The meeting took place 9 December in the evening. The Embassy provided the premises and contributed to the refreshments.

Consultations of State Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in Prague

Consultations of State Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affaires of Finland Jaakko Laajava with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and State Secretary for EU Affairs Jiří Schneider were held on November 22, 2012. One day consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and Finland took place at the Czernin Palace.

Janáček choir on a concert tour in Finland

During September 22 – 30, 2012 Janáček choir from Jablonec nad Nisou led by the choirmaster Olga Frölichová was on a concert tour in Finland. The tour was a reciprocal visit for last year’s performances of Helsinki Finnish Club choir. Janáček choir performed five concerts in Helsinki and surroundings. The choir was received by the Finnish audience very warmly.

Exhibition by Pavel Mrkus in Pori

An exhibition of Czech visual artist Pavel Mrkus was opened in Pori Art Museum on September 21, 2012. The exhibition named Next Planet presents a series of video projections which touch phenomena “on the borders of real – physical and illusive – data spaces”. The exhibition was organized with support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki and it is open in Pori till January 13, 2013.

Documentary film about a former political prisoner presented in Tampere

On August 20th, 2012 a documentary film portrait of a former political female prisoner Karla Charvátová was presented in Niagara Arthouse Cinema in Tampere. The author of the project is Tomáš Bouška from Aspen Institute Prague. The film projection was followed by a discussion with academics and audience. The event was organized in cooperation with Tampere University Allumni and Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki.

Programming managers from the Prague City Hall visited Finland

During the week between 6 – 10 August, 2012 a group of 12 programming managers from the European Regional Development Fund Department of the Prague City Hall visited Finland. The main goal of the study visit was to gain experience and knowledge from connecting business environment and academic sphere in order to increase innovative potential.

Mole helps sick children

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Finland handed over 50 small Moles as a sponsor gift for small patients in Finnish hospitals. Toys were kindly provided by Moravská ústředna Brno company and taken over by Mikko Möltsi who has became a volunteer “emissary” of Mole in Finnish clinics. The gift was handed over by the Czech Ambassador and the attaché of the Embassy, Mgr. Nora Boháčová who coordinated the project.

Visit of Czech parliamentary delegation in Finland

During April 16 – 18, 2012 a delegation of the Committee for science, education, culture, youth and sport of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic visited Finland. The delegation was led by parliament member Vlasta Bohdalová, the other members of the delegation were Adam Rykala and Ivana Levá.

School headmasters of Hradec Králové region in Finland

Finnish students of Czech language at the Embassy

April 19th, 2012 a group of Finnish students of Czech language gathered at the premises of the Embassy of the Czech Republic. The meeting was a closing event of this winter semester for students that participated in language courses organized by the Finnish-Czech Society and an open college for adults, Kalliolan kansalaisopisto. The teacher of these courses was Sirpa Seppälä, the vice president of the Finnish-Czech Society.

CzechTourism was present on the Go Expo 2012 golf fair which took place from 2nd to 4th of March in Helsinki. 450 exhibitors exposed on the surface of 9.323 m². The fair was visited by 41.907 people.

With deepest sorrow we would like to inform you that the Czech Republic’s first president after the Velvet Revolution, coauthor and signatory of Charter 77, writer and playwright has died on Sunday 18th December 2011. The Book of Condolences will be opened at the Embassy from December 20 to December 22, 2011.

Seminar on Finnish translation of the fairytale book Hitsi vieköön!

On Tuesday 29th November 2011 a seminar on the occasion of publishing the Finnish translation of the fairytale book Hitsi vieköön! (K čertu!) was held at the premises of the University of Helsinki. The author of the book is Helena Lehečková, a longtime docent of Czech philology at the University of Helsinki.
