Chairman of Suomen PEN Jarkko Tontti met the Ambassador

On 26th May the Ambassador met the chairman of Suomen PEN Club Mr. Jarkko Tontti. At the Embassy they discussed common projects, the position of Czech literature in Finland and translation of Czech books into the Finnish language.

Jarkko Tontti, born in Tampere, is a significant Finnish writer and poet. In 2011 only in the age of 30 he became a chairman of the Finnish PEN Club. Suomen PEN was established in 1928 and it has 400 members. Talented Tontti, formerly lawyer, has published several poem collections up to now. Best known of them is Jaccaser published in 2009. Also his novel Luokkakokous (Class meeting) from 2007 is worth mentioning. This year Tontti published a collection of essays Koti, uskonto ja isänmaa (Home, belief and homeland). Discussions between the Ambassador and Mr. Tontti confirmed the mutual interest in spreading knowledge about the Czech literature in Finland and wise versa. According to Tontti one of the occasions for presenting Czech literature to Finnish readers will be the Night of Arts organized in Helsinki in August 2012.
