Exhibition "Franz Kafka in Prague" in Hong Kong

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer Czech writer of German-language novels, Franz Kafka, organize the the Franz Kafka Society of Prague with the support of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong at the Goethe-Gallery in Hong Kong the exhibition "Franz Kafka in Prague".

Photographs and documents depicting the relation between Prague and one of its most famous residents – Franz Kafka – who has been undoubtedly influenced by the city’s beauty and mystery, will be on display at the exhibition “Franz Kafka in Prague” at the Goethe-Gallery. Visitors are invited to take on a journey to learn about Kafka’s life through greeting the life-size portrait of the writer at the gallery entrance, followed by a short walk through the display panels before concluding the experience with Kafka’s biography and personal signature imprinted on the gallery wall. To supplement this exhibition by the Franz Kafka Society of Prague, the Institut will present some screenings on the same topic in its Black Box Studio, together with showcasing a series of novels by Franz Kakfa in the Goethe-Library during the exhibition period.

The exhibition "Franz Kafka in Prague" will be held in the Gallery of Goethe Institute in Hong Kong from 6th December 2013 until 20th January 2014.

The opening hours are: Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Free admission. (The Gallery will be closed from 24.12.2013 – 1.1.2014 inclusive)

Talk by Professor Lee Ou-fan

To enhance a further understanding of Kafka’s life and work, Goethe-Institut Hongkong has invited Kafka-expert Professor Lee Ou-fan to share his knowledge and opinion on Franz Kafka. A talk will be held at the finissage of the exhibition on January 20, 2014 (Mon) from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Black Box Studio of the Goethe-Institut. All are welcome and admission is free on a first come, first served basis. The talk will be conducted in English. Having retired from Harvard in 2004, Professor Lee Ou-fan is Professor of Humanities at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Among his publications in English are Shanghai Modern (Harvard, 1999), Voices from the Iron House: A Study of Lu Xun (Indiana, 1987) and The Romantic Generation of Modern Chinese Writers (Harvard, 1974). All of them have been translated into Chinese. Lee’s Chinese publications include a dozen collections of essays in cultural criticism and two novels.
