Come and See the Czech Republic - in Ancol

(This article expired 30.05.2015.)

Two-days festival “From the Heart of Europe” at the Night Art Market Ancol, Jakarta on Friday and Saturday 30-31 May brings you the flavour of the Czech Republic and three other Central-European countries.

The programme of country-themed festivals at the Night Art Market or Pasar Seni in the recreation area of Ancol in Jakarta features the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia on the last weekend of May. An array of exhibitions, food stalls, film projections, live music and shops offers a virtual travel to the “Heart of Europe”.

The most fascinating historical places will be introduced at the exhibition of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Czech Republic. Other remarkable sights will be shown in pictures by Indonesian photographer Anna Susanna and through a continuous video projection. The breath-taking architecture of Prague makes a background for an Academy Award-winning movie Kolya: the charming story of a relation between a five-year old boy and his reluctant stepfather will be screened at 7 p.m. on Saturday, 31 May. The visitors will be offered to sample Czech food and beer, the original Pilsner, together with Czech cakes from the food stalls. Other booths will offer the most renowned Czech product, the Bohemian glass (or crystal, if you will) and the glass jewellery. The Czech-Indonesian interaction will be attested by the bold paintings of Yit Kampak, Czech artist living in Sulawesi, and a compilation of photos, old and new, tracing the journey in Java of a prominent Czech poet Konstantin Biebl back in 1926-7.
