New academic year saw a restart of ‘Café francophone’ and ‘Salongespräche’ series

After the summer break, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs resumes its tradition of informal meetings of French and German speaking diplomats with Czech civil servants, ‘Café francophone’ and ‘Salongespräche.’ The meetings have become a popular opportunity to improve language skills and to exchange information on current topics.

In 2010, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated ‘Café francophone’ as a platform for informal meetings of Czech and foreign diplomats and civil servants. From the beginning, the series of meetings became a popular event for those who wished to improve their language skills and to exchange information on various topics. Building on this tradition, the ‘Salongespräche’ series for German-speaking diplomats and civil servants was launched in 2013.

After the summer break, the meetings started again on 1 October 2013. The meetings at Czernin Palace usually attract more than thirty participants. The successful format has now become popular also outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic: following the MFA’s example, similar events have been organised by other ministries in various countries. In addition to the French and German version, another “language coffee”, the ‘Café Iberoamericano’ series for speakers of Spanish and Portuguese will start  on 7 October.
