Children from evacuated town by Fukushima to visit the Czech Republic

On 3rd August, 2012 Vladimír Galuška, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, met Japanese children from Namie, neighbouring town of Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant. After the disastrous earthquake and tsunami in March 2011, twenty thousand inhabitants of Namie were evacuated from their homes with no possibility of return.

A group of 34 children from Namie stays in the Czech Republic from 1st to 12th August, 2012, following the invitation by Karel Schwarzenberg, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, during his working visit to Japan in October 2011.

Children from Namie enjoy a recondition stay in the Oliva’s Paediatric Sanatorium in Říčany near Prague. The whole project is funded by the Government of the Czech Republic.
