The Czech Republic expressed in the letter of Minister of Foreign Affairs Cyril Svoboda compassion and sympathy to the victims of the elemental disaster caused by the hurricane Katrina.

The Czech Republic is ready to provide aid to affected areas in the United States of America. The Czech Republic is now consulting the most appropriate form of aid through its diplomatic representations. One of the possible alternatives is for example the participation of the CR in one of the projects of reconstruction of cultural, academic, medical or compatriot buildings.

The MFA of the CR welcomes all serious activities of Czech citizens and institutions, as well as our compatriots, motivated by a sincere will to help the persons from the affected areas. The MFA of the CR also welcomes activities of organisations, which are ready to organise public fundraising. The MFA has already approved:

- the account of the International Coordinatin Committee of Czechs Abroad:

51-2687890247/0100

- the account of the ADRA Foundation:

211211211/0300, v.s. 222

The MFA of the CR is ready to approve applications of other bodies organising public fundraising and will provide information on them to the public.
