ADRA is an international humanitarian organization aimed at support of people in need. The organization was established more than 50 years ago in the United States. Today, it is represented in 125 countries.
ADRA has been present in the Czech Republic since 1992. Originally, it functioned as a foundation tasked with redistribution of financial aid. Its workers have gradually extended their activities and started to realize their own programs. In 1994, seeing the scope of their agenda increasing and in response to legislative changes, a Civic Association ADRA was established. Its main goal has been to provide humanitarian, social and developmental assistance both at home and abroad. Today, ADRA is one of the three biggest humanitarian organizations in the Czech Republic
In cooperation with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs - within its Transition Promotion Program, ADRA realizes development projects in Serbia, Moldova and Burma.
In Serbia, ADRA realizes projects aimed at domestic violence prevention. It focuses primarily on legal aspects of this problem and on adoption and implementation of appropriate legislative changes.
In Moldavia, ADRA seeks to extend people’s awareness of legal and social problems.
In Burma, ADRA aims at enhancing capacities of communities and civil society through training and education of prospective young leaders and mobilization of communities for realization of development needs.
