The International Association Civic Belarus was established in 2004 in order to support democratic initiatives and diverse ways of developing civil society and free media in Belarus.
The Association strives to support non-governmental and non-profit organizations in Belarus, including those civic initiatives which have been deprived of the ability to operate legally by the regime of Alexander Lukashenka. Another aim of Civic Belarus is to share Czech know-how and experience in transformation with Belarusian organizations.
In cooperation with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs – within the Transition Promotion Program, Civic Belarus realizes the following projects:
- In September 2004, it was a co-founder of the European Radio for Belarus, based in Warsaw, which aims to provide independent news, information, and entertainment to the citizens of Belarus, whose access to independent media is restrained by the regime.
- In cooperation with other international partners, Civic Belarus participates in the project Human Rights House in Vilnius. The House is an association of Belarusian human rights organizations and it also provides safe premises for conducting the activities of Belarusian NGOs (seminars, conferences, workshops).
- Civic Belarus also focuses on the support to Belarusian civil society. It seeks to assist in development of contacts between Belarusian and Czech NGOs, universities and other educational institutions.
