The library Libri Prohibiti was established in October 1990 in order to concentrate the so called “forbidden books”, i.e. those produced by exile and samizdat publishers. Its goal is both to archive and make available to public a wide range of high quality books, periodicals, and other materials produced by the Czech exile, as well as the domestic opposition.
The library posseses a unique collection of roughly 19,000 books and 1,600 periodicals.
In cooperation with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs – within the Transition Promotion Program, Libri Prohibiti focuses on the support to the Cuban Independent Libraries Movement which seeks to compensate for the overall lack of literature and information in the island.
