Association for Democracy Assistance and Human Rights
The project was implemented comprehensively and thematically based on selected criteria, without any problems with implementation.
Activities of the platform were generated from the scope of capacity building, advocacy and networking.
Following activities were implemented in the area of capacity building: the extension of Secretariat with the new DEMAS policy officer / project manager, which enabled all-embracing development of the whole organization. DEMAS working groups are having regular contacts that facilitate important exchanges of information, as well as discussions over joint projects. In addition, platform organized trainings and seminars for its members, namely: Security on internet and Logical framework matrix. Both of these workshops considerably widened knowledge in these areas and resulted in better security in communication with undemocratic regimes and also in a more coherent and compact use of logframe.
Category of advocacy generated many activities implemented both domestically and internationally. Advocacy activities were conducted towards different target groups. Among the activities aimed at the public were the lecturing course at Charles University in Prague, rated very positively by attendees, and presentation of DEMAS at the NGO Market. The Association also conducted meetings with politicians working in key parliamentary committees. Meeting with members of Parliament took place in the second half of the Project implementation. The work of the platform and its member organizations were introduced and professional expert analyses were offered. Some MPs have already contacted DEMAS with demand of specific analysis. DEMAS also issued statements on the European financial instruments for external assistance and on future transformation cooperation in these financial instruments. In the area of human rights DEMAS contributed in rejection of Venezuela's candidacy to the Human Rights Council.
Most activities were directed at the EU level and to the third countries. Strong networking and advocacy background and purpose had the visits of two Belarusian human rights activists and directors of front Balkan think-tanks (financed by NED). These activities had a strong advocacy and networking dimension.
All project activities carry a promise of possible future joint projects. Many activities have a double dimension, do not take place solely for the purpose of networking, they often overlap with advocacy. Not all activities have been financed solely by this project, the diversification of financial sources are secured by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the International Visegrad Fund and Open Society Foundation.
Some project outputs will be reflected more in the long run. However, project activities have been fully met and successfully implemented. This will allow a follow up for a number of them as well as continuation of this project.
The amount of financial support from the MFA: CZK 600 000.
