MFA Financial Contribution: 475 527,83 CZK
In the framework of this project, Civic Belarus was monitoring the work of the Belarusian Human Rights House in Vilnius (http://humanrightshouse.org/Members/Belarus/index.html) and contributed to its’ promotion.
Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of the international partners of the project and in 2010 it donated 11 000 EUR for the operation of the House.
The Belarusian Human Rights house was founded as a result of joint efforts by human rights NGOs in Belarus, the Human Rights House Foundation (Norway) and Czech MFA in 2007. In 2010 the House hosted 51 events for 1 146 participants. Apart from trainings, press conferences, workshops and film screenings the House also organized Forum of Belarusian human rights defenders. The Forum took place for the first time in six years and gathered more than 50 Belarusian human rights defenders and 30 international observers. The participants created a common strategy for the Belarusian human rights movement.
The House was also a partner in several projects. “Bring International Standards Home” trains Belarusian lawyers and human rights defenders. They later use the acquired knowledge of international legal norms in Belarusian courts. The participants of the project “Election Observation - Theory and Practice” went through trainings, but also took part in election observation in Latvia, Ukraine and Belarus.
In the year 2010, Civic Belarus also organized trainings and workshops for young, mainly regional, activists from Belarus. We provided 3 minigrants which were aimed at increasing activization of local communities. Thanks to the trainings about communication strategies for NGOs, at least 5 Belarusian organizations improved their ability to communicate with their supporters and the public.
We have also supported communication among representatives of Belarusian democratic movement and Czech decision-makers and public. We helped to organize visits and prepare program for Belarusian journalists, activists and opposition politicians in the Czech Republic. Civic Belarus also arranged the interviews of Belarusian democratic movement representatives for Czech mass media, see Interview with A. Milinkevich for Mediafax or Interview with V. Njakljajev for Lidove Noviny.
