Support to Democracy and to the Development of the Civil Society in Karen State, Burma/Myanmar, 2012

ADRA aims to strengthen the civil society and its role in democratization processes in Karen State in order to contribute to democratic change & poverty alleviation in Burma/Myanmar. Within the ongoing project, ADRA is taking the facilitation role, bringing together important actors of Karen Civil Society.and open up the dialog by involving Karen youths as well. Several trainings on institutional and organisational development and on the topics of sustainability are being conducted within this project. As well as various exposure trips to other regions of Burma/ Myanmar, in order to create best practice and to increase networking of Civil Society actors from the whole country. Within the project students from three local Universities are enabled to take part in the regular discussion evenings, meet interesting local and international personalities and raise their interest and attitude towards active citizenship. ADRA build this project on the local structures of present strong networks of civil society, making use of its long term presence inside the Karen state and at the Thai border at the same time.
