People in Need, 2010
MFA Financial Contribution: 3 300 000 CZK
In 2010, the two-year project focused on support for development and mutual cooperation of Iraqi NGOs, local officials, elected representatives, private sector and citizens. The project activities have been implemented in the governorates of Basra, Missan and Thi-Qar.
People in Need continued to work on capacity development of local NGOs' representatives. A training seminar in community projects' management was organized in June 2010. Three coalitions of local NGOs were awarded microgrants to implement coalition projects in order to advance the objective to support mutual cooperation among NGOs, local government and private sector. The projects focused on integration of disabled persons, support for disadvantaged women and involvement of youth in the community.
To encourage public participation and strengthen awareness of human rights, 10 000 information booklets have been distributed by eight local NGOs in the three provinces in the Lower South of Iraq. The distribution was accompanied by seminars, publications and public meetings in order to promote the debate on the selected issues.
