Agora Central Europe, o.p.s.
In 2011, Agora CE realized in cooperation with its Moldovan partner organization another joint project designed to support transformation of Moldovan society, with main focus on two target groups – young people under 18 and local citizens – participants to local elections.
The project had two objectives. The first was to encourage participation in local elections through civic education campaign created and implemented by students who last year participated in a debating competition called On the way to the Parliament. The campaign offered to those students the opportunity to practice the skills they gained through participation in the debating competition. The second objective was to organize a second year of the debating competition, in order to teach new students from 12 schools skills of presentation and argumentation that will help them in their civic life and their effort to argue and support their interests in their community and society.
Within the first objective, 8 local teams composed of students and their teachers prepared more than 20 activities to encourage their fellow citizens to vote in local elections. At an evaluation workshop, they also identified major issues faced by their communities. Within the debating competition, approx. 250 students participated in the debating seminars. 12 teams of students representing 12 secondary schools from 6 regions competed in regional rounds of the competition and four made it to the final round. The team representing „M. Eminescu“ secondary school from Sipoteni municipality, Calarasi region, became the winner of the competition.
