In 2012, Association for International Affairs (AMO) implemented the first phase of the project named “Alternative education for Ukrainian teachers” supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Current project follows previous AMO activities in Eastern Ukraine. Since 2007, AMO has been providing Ukrainian teachers with Czech experience with educational reform and know how in interactive teaching methods in the framework of the projects called Alternative and later Civic alternative for the Eastern Ukraine schools.
Alternative education for Ukrainian teachers was aimed at raising awareness about alternative educational methods in multicultural education among teachers from Crimea. AMO sought to increase tolerance and respect to various ethnical and confessional groups among teachers and their pupils, using interactive methods of teaching, developing critical thinking.
A number of seminars, study trips and presentations were carried out in Crimea in order to meet the objectives of the project. Czech experts from the Centre of Multicultural Education of Masaryk University lectured in six Crimean towns Scholkino, Feodosia, Evpatoria, Simferopol, Sovetskoe and Mykolaevka. All activities were prepared in closed cooperation with Ukrainian partners – Center of intercultural education and tolerance, local branch of Ukrainian School Headmaster Association and with the support of Crimean partners – Ministry of education of Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Intensive two day-long seminar was organized in Belohorsk together with the Association of Crimean Tatar educators „Maarifchi“. It was the first step in further phase of the project focused on encouraging activities of Crimean Tatar teachers by small projects and training in modern methods of education.
Activities of AMO were awarded by the gold medal for international cooperation of Ukrainian Ministry of Education.
